Top 10 Things A Super Mom Should Know

As we discussed previously there are challenges and rewards to being a Mom. We also know that being a single mom is hard. However despite the challenges we know that we are Super Moms! Therefore we are not going to emphasize the single we instead emphasize the Super!

In my opinion these are the Top 10 things I think all Super Moms should know.

  1. You are more than enough! There is nothing wrong with you whether you are going through a divorce, never being married, or decided to have a baby a lone. You are enough.
  2. Your way is the right way! Despite how any one else did things and you will here it a lot “well…I did this and you should…”. You know what works best for you. God puts something in us that makes us rise to the occasion like never before. Your level of love, patience, etc is out of this world.
  3. You are not perfect and that is ok! We all strive for perfection in every area of our life however there is no perfect person in this world. So let go of the false expectations you have but on yourself. Just be the best YOU that you can be.
  4. You have a support system so use it! Although you may not have a partner in this parenting role you do have family and/or friends. It is so true when they say “it takes a village to raise a family”. I do not know what I would have done if it was not for my mother, family and friends. Some of my best friends (my daughter calls them Auntie and I call them my baby daddy…lol) helped me with my child. So know that it is ok to lean on your family and true friends/sisters.
  5. You must balance your time! Do not be afraid to speak up about what your needs are. I know we all need jobs and money to pay our bills and take care of our kids. However like they say “a closed mouth does not get feed”. In your interviews, ask how do you feel about working moms, family, needing time off. Or what is your vacation and sick policy, how flexible is the job. Do they have child care on site, etc.?
  6. You have to plan and mark your calendars! There are days when things do not go as planned however at least you have one and know what to move to the next day. Use your calendar whether it is on your phone or the frig. You do not want to miss out on a play, forget to pick up from practice on time, or send money for the school outing, etc.. Therefore not planning or using your calendar will always make you feel defeated.
  7. You do not always have to have money to have fun! I am an Atlanta Braves fan, it was the team my uncle whom was like a father to me liked and so did I. Therefore living in Georgia I going to the Braves game was affordable and fun. Kids 2 years and younger are free. You just have to put in the work. Know your city and find out all the community free activities you and your child(ren) can go to.
  8. You must make a budget! You are the sole provider for you and your child (ren) and sometimes things can get really hard. That is why it is important to know how much money you have and where it is going. It is important to budget your bills and activities to include shopping, dinners out, etc. Often times we become so focused on surviving that we forget to actually live. Please know it is possible you just have to plan and budget for it.
  9. You must put down your phone! Yep I said it, put the phones down. This can be hard especially if you work all the time and have a demanding job. However it is possible. Set some time aside each day for you and your child(ren) to talk. You all can catch up on the day, see where what is on there minds, etc. Now please note this is not homework time this is quality time each day where we put the busyness aside and talk, laugh, ride a bike, etc. with our kids.
  10. You are super! Yes being a single mom is hard, yes you feel tired and overwhelmed and the list goes on. But at the end of the day…you got this! There are many roads in life that we will travel and they will not be easy. This is just another road with some bumps and curves along the way but watching your child(ren) flourish is worth it.

WORDS OF INSPIRATION:

Of course there is more to being a super mom however I wanted to highlight what I felt was important to know upfront. It is important to highlight your awesomeness and to develop plan. Because like I stated this road will be full of bumps, hills and curves but it is worth it!
